Jamaica leading the way in renewable energy!

In the last 10 years JA has done a fantastic job in promoting renewable energy (RE). Firstly led by the government, PCJ created Wigton Wind Farms, up in the hills of St. Elizabeth. Once the theory had been proven, the government then launched a series of RE auctions, in which the private sector has piled in, including Richard Branson. Jamaica now boasts about 150 Megawatts of wind and solar, equivalent to about 15% of national generating capacity - on a hot, windy day lol.

NONE of the rest of the Caribbean is anywhere close - come on people, what are we waiting for!!! Or rather, come on governments, make it happen!

If the Government gets its act together we have about 60-80 years of oil and LPG from the oilfield that is apparently firmly inside our territorial waters. If they don't find a large briefcase we could be the new Trinidad.

We go pollute you rasss wid we oil.... smile

Poisoned chalice, double-edged sword, call you what you want but oil and gas is the last thing Grenada needs.

So it's good for everyone else, but not us? Venezuela and others will be feeling the pressure from losing the "good life" as prices are low. But what you've never had can only be a bonus, which may be bigger as other oil fields get used up...

It's been good for Trinidad and Venezuela? You are equating good with money, but money doesn't equal good. I, and I'm sure you, would prefer to live in "poor" Grenada over any of those two crime infested basket cases.

Re: Jamaica leading the way in renewable energy!

No argument that Trini which I know more about than Ven is a disaster as to regards to crime, but while there is crime all around the World, Trini seems to be overdoing it..... There are many wealthy countries, but they do not by default become murder and kidnapping centers of excellence.

I don't think wealth is the main factor, or its distribution, rather the temperament and mix of the people.

Poverty tends to be a greater driver, and whilst huge gaps between the rich and poor can give the poor green eyes, it isn't that prevalent in Grenada as yet.... surprising as it is considering the amount of people only just getting by, and youth unemployment.

Bring in Oil, and employment will rise.
