Talking Poems Today eh ?

Here is one for all . Not too many weeks  ago I tried to  get this message across to another..

The time will come
When with elation

You will greet yourself arriving,
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome

and say , sit here and eat.

You will love again the stranger , who was yourself.
give wine , give bread , give back your heart to itself.
To the stranger who has loved you , all your life
Whom you ignored for another , who knows you by heart.

Take down the love letters from the book shelf , the photographs , the desperate notes
Peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit feast on your life.

> You must sit down  says love and taste my meat .
So I did sit and eat <

New Historian

Re: Talking Poems Today eh ?

At school we had to recite "potery", it wasn't until years later that I learned how beautiful it is:

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

Sailing To Byzantium    ( W B Yeats )

This is no country for old men . The young
In one another arms , birds in the trees
- those dying generations - at their song
The salmon  - falls . The mackerel  - crowded seas.
Fish , flesh , or fowl , commend all summer long.
Whatever is begotten , born and dies , caught in that sensual music neglect.
Moments of unageing intellect.

New Historian went slumming in St Lucia , looking for some carnival. (look out !)
Why ?  Afraid of a rickety schooner .... " very right " lol

Yes , one had to learn some poems by 'heart'
Iike .... La Belle Sans Merci ....  as soon as you wrote recite , I remembered. lo.

Oh what can ail thee knight at arms
Alone and palely loitering
The sledge is withered from the lake
And no birds sing.

I saw pale kings and princes too
Pale warriors , death pale were they all
They cried - 'La Belle Sans Merci '
Hath thee in thall                                               .... John  Keats

....... hey I remembered some.
