Mayella Ewell

Mayella Ewell is a fictional character in Harper Lee's masterpiece of literature To Kill a Mockingbird.  Mayella was a white trash woman who falsely claimed that a black man raped her.  This being the Jim Crow South, the all white, all male jury automatically believed her and the black man was unjustly convicted.

Emmett Till wasn't a fictional character and he was brutally killed due to the lies of a woman.   Lying by women was one of the major tools of oppression in the Jim Crow South.  How many black men were unjustly convicted or even lynched based on false claims of sexual assault?  Far more than a few.

Coming out the the Kavanaugh hearings, the left is telling us that all women need to be believed and that they have no reason to lie.

How do you square that with the long history of lies regarding sexual assault that resulted in the death of Emmett Till and scores of other black men?  Should all women be believed like Mayella Ewell was automatically believed in To Kill a Mockingbird?

Re: Mayella Ewell

My oh my, what an enormous straw man you have erected to draw out the debate which was already covered, and put to bed.

We ... most of us accepted the innocent until proven guilty.

We.... most of us also thought the woman was compelling.

We... most of us thought there should be a deeper investigation.

We... most of us from available information also though a person who seemed to like becoming legless might reach a stage where they could do things they quite genuinely don't remember.

Remember the political shenanigans was by the political parties not the woman.

Whats done is done, we, sorry you have a tainted Supreme Judge, because it was expedient not to do better inquiries.  You wanted it, you got it, live with it.

Re: Mayella Ewell

That was an excellent summary of the prior discussions here on the subject, Expat.

The very ugly matter should be laid to rest with the understanding that the tainted Supreme Court and the even more tainted Kavanaugh (in that order) will remain so for quite a while.

Re: Mayella Ewell

Yep.  Emmett Till was tainted by a false allegation too.
