Ban the behemoths

A bit extreme, but debate needs a jolt of extremism every now and then, don't you think?

Re: Ban the behemoths

I will never step aboard one of those things.  Personal reasons...

1) I don't want to just wallow in food and drink.
2) Even in the best of times, they are disease vectors.
3) They are moving crowds.  I try to avoid crowds.
4) I like to do a deeper immersion in the countries I visit.
5) I don't think I would care for the other people on-board.

No doubt that there is a huge demand for that sort of vacation.
Don't like the crowds either and have no desire to be in a Las Vegas hotel that floats around at sea.

Pretty much 100% agreement, I am neither a glutton nor an alcoholic.
Couldn't be asked to get a new wardrobe x 2 to socialise in.
I hate being targeted as a tourist, it's bad enough as a resident in Grenada.
I a) like my own company, and b) am quite shy, so being corralled around a dinner table would be agony.
I am a night person, so I would have to get up to visit locations when I would want to stay in bed, and be stuck with a floating prison at night when my body clock kicks into gear.

Figured I'd find kindred spirits on here! Unfortunately "the masses" aren't quite so discerning, and have very short memories. People want cheap holidays; they'll be back. Bastards.

You first one is why ah never set foot on one of those things.
Wifee and her family went on about five cruises ah ready, and me not one.  She begged and begged me to accompany dem just once, and every time ah say Hell no. I am ah small man who doh like food that much. I eat to live, not live to eat.

Re: Ban the behemoths

Here is evidence that I don't like crowds and prefer a deep immersion.  I paid a hefty price to get an after-hours, private tour of Stonehenge.   No other tourists; just a historian guide.  It also allowed us to get inside the stones which most tourists are not allowed to do.  I would rather spend my money on that sort of thing than on a damned cruise ship.

This is the view through the stones that position the equinox.

I'd love to do that. When I were a nipper, me dad took us down there once, in them days there weren't no fences and such like, and me and me brothers had a great time, playing among the stones, with not a person in sight. We weren't little hooligans though, like others had been, and carved their names into the rock. Aye we were good lads we were.

Re: Ban the behemoths

I have heard others say that it wasn't that long ago that you were allowed to show up and just walk around in there unsupervised.  Sure not that way anymore.

Here is my best photo.
