Not much one can say with desperate figures like that.

Both sides of the rental equation have needs, and we hope that the landlord will accept a hit in the short term, but evicting may just reduce occupancy, but with the numbers out of work are they likely to get new tenants THAT quickly. All it may do is reduce wear and tear on the property with no one in it, and maybe reduce taxes?  but it aint going to provide income in a hurry.  So lose lose.

What happens to families evicted? street life?

But that wont happen.  A number of states are making sure that wont happen.  Baltimore City just pass laws to make sure, they are not evicted. It is not all doom and gloom in the US.

But how long can that last?

A buy for rent landlord HAS to have income to pay his mortgage. If the Tenants can't or wont pay the loan company will foreclose and the tenant gets evicted, and the landlord loses everything.
