Only just over 1 million dead.

One million plus plus sad stories, no belittling the statistic.

However just a teensy weensy thought. The World has several billion more people living since 1918, when there were probably over 50 million deaths. Considering the sneaky nature of this illness it would not be unreasonable to expect a higher figure that the 1918 pandemic.

Care with how you manage yourself, but this is just a panic society whipped up by the press.

Re: Only just over 1 million dead.

A quick Google search reveals that, in a world without the virus, we would have experienced about 43,350,000 deaths worldwide so far in 2020.

If we would assume that none of the 1 million dead would have died in the absence of coronavirus (an ABSURD assumption!) then the virus increased the global mortality rate by 2.3%.

As I said, however, the assumption that all one million of the Covid death would be alive in the absence of the virus is absurd.  It is certainly much lower than 2.3%.

Re: Only just over 1 million dead.

I think there seems to be continued agreement?

I would believe there are some that have been outright covid victims, whether it has been because of the learning curve regarding ventilators, or just being individuals, they were just there with the right genetic make up to be a victim. There are then a very large percentage of those victims who if we are talking 1st World had co-morbidities that might not have died this year, but maybe next? Then there will be possibly hundreds of thousands in places like India, where they simply did not have a chance due to exrtreme poverty, cramped living conditions, and almost like a co-morbidity they were weak through poor diet etc.

Some countries have also had some diabolical leadership, Brazil for sure, and even the UK springs to mind.

Re: Only just over 1 million dead.

Very few leaders support trump apart from Putin. Most are scared shitless of him.
