Pioneer Homestead

This is an old barn foundation a couple miles from my house.   Over the years they moved the road and diverted the river and this homestead was abandoned.   It probably was last used in the 1950s.   It would have been out in the open, rather than in the woods, in those days.

I took this about an hour ago.

Re: Pioneer Homestead

Amazing to see the structures of the past and wonder about not long ago. I like the masonry work, todays homes would never last that long.

Re: Pioneer Homestead

No they wouldn't last that long.

I mentioned that they diverted the river.  This area was abandoned because it is now prone to flooding.  Not only has this stood the test of time, it has stood through many floods.  The flooding here would have a strong current too.

The other thing that amazes me is that this was probably done by men who weren't masons by trade.  They are just handy men who learned to do all needed to live as pioneers.

That's my dog, Scout. smile

Re: Pioneer Homestead

I wish I loved anything in life as much as that dog loves to get out in the fields and forests.  She is the image of joy out there.
