Good article and I agree with it. I have started to downplay genera and style and seek out raw talent on any form.
Do me a favor and listen to Sara Bareilles perform live with just voice and piano. Just listen to her voice. Oh my God she is good.

Then listen to these young music students and tell me there is no hope.

Very nice, nothing more pure than a piano and a good voice. Perfect for a dinner atmosphere at a fancy restaurant or a piano lounge while enjoying a few cocktails.
Have to say, I'd much prefer listening to a DJ play the Rocket Mans original version of Bennie And The Jets.

I listened, very talented but where is the creativity?
As the article states, so many continue to use the beats of others as a platform to showcase thier talents but rarely offer anything genuine of their own.

What? Really? You have heard it literally a thousand times! Sure, most people like originals more than covers but there are no surprises listening to a recording of Bennie and the Jets for that 1,001st time. I love me some covers.
Sara covers CeeLo Green here and it is awesome.
In any case, the Bennie and the Jets part of the song was just 25 seconds slapped on the end.

You want creativity, talent and something I dare say you haven't heard before? Here is a Canadian group named Dead South.
In Hell I'll be in Good Company

Grease and Abba? My cringe meter went into overdrive! Look, I was in my prime in the so-called disco era, and me, and everyone I knew, HATED disco, New York radio stations had smash disco records days, and as for disco 'fashion', who ARE these dorks?! We were into reggae, rock, funk, soul and even soca lol - not disco! Except when you threw a party and you needed to get people on the dancefloor, only disco record I bought was the Beegees Sat Night Fever. Okay not quite the only.
Music todays is like disco.
