Re: We are making the drive tomorrow

Boy you real idle, 90% from your backyard and you still took that drive?  I guess it was something for you and your family to see.  Wiffe have to handicapped me and also drug me up for me to take that trip.  Ah love to drive, but not traffic.  I avoid traffic as much as I can.

The difference between 90% and 100% is everything.  Seriously.  In a 90% eclipse, it is still bright and sunny.  In a 100% eclipse, the sky goes dark as a giant shadow passes over you at 1,500 miles per hour.

In other words, a 90% eclipse is about 1% as amazing as a 100% eclipse.

It would have been 90% covered from my yard in Iowa.  We made the drive anyway.  I would say that at 90% covered, the area still was 90% and light.  Even at 99% covered, it was probably 50% as light as normal.  Only when it went total did the sky turn dark and the stars come out.  It was a great experience.

It cost me though.  Gasoline, 10 hours behind the wheel and a $210 speeding ticket from a podunk town speed trap in the Confederate leaning state of Missouri.

Still, it was something I always wanted to see and I took the 12 year old boy so he will remember it.

Only 2 weeks ago he was 10, Man you have to but the brakes on that kid, he making me older far too quickly.

Did I say he was 10 two weeks ago?  Typo or I was talking about something that happened two years ago.  He has been 12 since April.

Re: We are making the drive tomorrow

Okay, someone who I watched the eclipse with in Missouri sent her photos.  This is what we saw and this, Slice, is why a total eclipse is so amazing.

So they had a pretty hefty lens, or else very high ASA and a lot of cropping.... Yeah,, without using my welding mask or those special glasses you could just make out the ambient light had dropped .... also the temperature, but it was just like a crescent moon but bright instead of dark.
