I have nothing but respect for Rosanne Barr

I use to hate Rosanne Barr... But after her huge Rating I have to say I have nothing but respect for Rosanne Barr.. I am sure Calypso agree with me 100%... After her huge Ratings I see a great future for Rosanne Barr... I am setting up my PVR so I won't miss any of her future shows... I have to say Rosanne Barr have seen the light she is a very smart woman just like Kellyanne conway...

Yes, but you don't set the barr very high do you. You think a self aggrandising, dimwit, who has a floating opinion, and applauds demagogues and looks like an orange with a comb all over not just a comb over, who is using the office to bring business to his hotels and golf clubs, who thinks grabbing Puzzey, and kissing women without asking, not to mention cheating on his wife with a porn star as his wife is having a baby is a great guy.

You, Englishman, are an archetypal exponent of that unique and misunderstood art form: the British sense of humour. Not that you're all that funny, far from it, but British humour, on the street, on the telly, in the pubs, is, at its best - hilarious! Where understatement and puns are the key, not the in-your-face humour seen on American sitcoms. Which is funny too, but in an instantly forgettable way. What Brit humour is best at is pushing the boundaries; jokes that make you go: oh no he didn't! After you've stopped laughing. Life of Brian, what a brilliant piece of heretical comedy! How many British comedies have been exported and Americanized, from Alf Garnett to The Office, invariably with only rib-tickling success. What's outrageous for American audiences is ho-hum at home.

A good list, I don't know the later ones, and of course themselves had to have the number 1 slot.

I definitely would not make it as a comedian, I accept that unreservedly, but then I am not trying to be.

Simply the odd smart ass remark, and more often than not reverse black... as in dark or graveyard, humour where it is supposed to be so outrageous that rather like your oh no he didn't comment, it is beyond the pale, and should be obvious it is not meant seriously, and usually acompanied by a silly grin as I post. However on this site as in Grenada self, people seem to be very literal, and and get offended, and need explanations for what in the first place was a very simple dig.

While American comedy CAN be funny, oftentimes it is dumbed down for the masses and NEEDS the laugh track added to make sure we know where it was supposed to be funny. Obviously there is some humour that will float completely over my head simply because it relies on awareness of people and events that most non Americans wouldn't be aware of. This of course could be said about some UK humour too.

But if you take out the slapstick like Benny Hill , and the rather one off Mr Bean, mainstream British humour generally is like the people, underplayed. But if you understand the nuances can be tear makingly funny, while others like my Wife sit there with a bemused look on her face.

Comedy is evolving we can't stick in the 60s, 70's and 80's with Alf Garnet, On the Buses, Dads Army, Fools and Horses, Love thy Neighbour Allo Allo, etc, just so long as we don't go down the crude route that many stand ups seem to use.

By now MRP's wild statements should be just ignored. He is either on a slow trip to a corner chair -- with the right amount of padding -- or he is trying to have fun with us on serious issues that he fails to realize demand serious reflection, not hollow antics.

I'll ever remember the special episode of "One Foot in the Algarve" (One Foot In The Grave) with the donkey scene ...

I can't get tired of watching these older British comedies, which are showing less and less. Oh and how about Black Adder? Keeping up Appearances ... and To The Manor Born a.s.o.

I'm definitely less fond of the more huge-and-spectacular or/and cynical-and-crude ones. Which are also the more recent ones.

Then, there's the French ones from the 60s, 70s and 80s ... oh what a delight! Multiplied delight to understand each of them in their original language. Same for the German ones. What a privilege to be able to understand humour in several languages.
