Old story, without Depp. Why not rob the high seas, as in the Elizabethan era? There is wealth to be made on the water as countries trade goods and other valuables.

Yes, of course. Lots of wealth to be made robbing and stealing.
Modern pirates have it pretty easy when Joe Yacht is on the briny with valuables.

While some Pirates do target larger vessels as in or near Yemen. It is more likely our tourist industry will be affected by theft and murder or smaller yachts and cruisers not to mention our fishermen who have been known to disappear. Nothing to be indifferent to.

When times are tough people concoct evil ways to survive. Piracy is an old way but nonetheless. it's a means to an end.

Yep, pretty much like selling crack cocaine to school children.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean

Calypso I'm surprised at your callous comments. The biggest fallacy on the sea is that yachts are crammed with money and valuables - nothing could be further from the truth, the whole reason for being on a yacht is to rid yourself of those same valuables. This growing scourge needs to be wiped out from the seas.

I am not disagreeing. It is a travesty  but what it is, is what it is! Valuables don't have to be jewelry: it is goods: carpets, clothes, food, etc, etc. Anything that can be sold and bought!

Something a pirate would say.

" theft is the highest form of commerce "
