"Is everything that happens after 1834 a post slavery experience? I find it amazing that Rihanna feels like she was discriminated it against in a Caribbean country with a population that is 90% of african descent."
It depends on what you include in the definition of discrimination. If you include the fact that a lot of people, including me, was teased and called really bad names for their skin color, then I too was a victim of discrimination. I also got special favors, particularly from older people, because of my skin color. I, however, did not internalize any of this. I think Rihanna is telling the truth and she must have experienced some pain at the time. How would you like to be called "sailor man child" even though everybody knew your parents or "red scalled crayfish".
I do agree with Coast's post above. Tolerance is not what you will find in the Caribbean and people are teased and discriminated against for just about anything - retardation, physical disability, "black as cobo", dirt poor parents, falling down house, just name it.
