I think our society pays very little attention to the significant emotional and psychological harm caused by adultery, and that's reflected in your post.
A lot of incidents and trauma in life cause "significant emotional and psychological harm" but no one has the right to take another human being's life because of it.
And also, people should not be punished more or less because of adultery when on trial for a related murder. We need to compartmentalize the issues at all times and stop getting emotional.
