Mamma Africa! The word revolutionary is often over-used... even if used sparingly, it fits the bill for Miriam. Her voice was the weapon. But she was an activist in her own right. She was one of the first people to take the South African apartheid issue to the United Nation. The South Africans banned her from re-entering the country. Harassment by the other racist bastion, the US, especially after her marriage to Stokley Carmichael, caused her to flee to Guinea.

I particularly like the Khoisan "The Click Song". It is a wonderful song but it made the world aware of that aspect of the beautiful Khoisan language. I had an old 'Best of Miriam' CD that got scratched, thanks to the MP3 revolution I was able to convert it without a glitch. One of my cherished collections.
