In truth and in fact, history is populated more by those whose names we will never know for real, but are brought to life in the reality of our imaginations. At the period when slavery and slave laws were most harsh, and despite centuries of massive efforts to deprive the Afrikans of their heritage, the following accurred on one of the slave plantations:
" On 22 October it came to [the missionary`s ] attention that a few slaves had taken part in a dance ritual near the ...gate. When questioned, the slaves - all the 15 participants and 6 spectators - gave their names. Three of the fifteen participants, ALL OF THEM CONVERTED MALES, promised to refrain from further participation. The remaining 12, none of them converted, refused to make such a promise. ALL OF THESE, EXCEPT ONE, WERE FEMALE SLAVES."
Would like to recall the memory of these 12 women whose names and faces I seem to recognise, and who belonged to a race of Black women not so common today.
