Mutation is not necessarily a bad word in the evolution of any specie. In fact, it is through mutation that several progressive leaps in nature took place. With humans only recently being able to map the human genome, how can we boldly assume that the hermaphrodite is such a freak? What if the hermaphrodite is a ‘super’ human, of sorts, that human society has just not yet fully understood? I believe your thinking precludes any such possibility.
